Santander and Salamanca Spain

After docking in Southampton, we caught a cab to Portmouth to catch the ferry to Santander, Spain. The ferry ride (24 hours) was uneventful except for a medical emergency off the coast of France.

We arrived in Santander, a beautiful port, with lots to see. We stayed a couple of days and then caught the bus to Salamanca.

Salamanca is beautiful and we were very sorry to leave.  We had bought our tickets before we discovered the history and culture. We were going to change our tickets if it was possible and the weather was nice. We have so much rain. The next day it was raining so we took a 7 hour bus ride to Seville.

One day I hope to return to Salamanca but not by bus.

Queen Mary 2

The Queen Mary 2, a beautiful ship that took us across the North Atlantic in 7 days from New York, USA to Southampton, England. The weather was wet except for day 1, after that it was rough seas with gale force winds. It was not very rough; I do not believe anyone was sea sick.

The elevator. What can I say. I take weird photos.

The hot tubs/pools of the stern (back of the ship - I have to use nautical terms, after all I am a sailor) of the ship.

Brian's cottage 'Tranquility Base' on Lake Nipissing
Lake Nipissing is a very large lake west of North Bay. The yellow dot on the map is mainland boat house where the car is parked and the boat is stored. It takes approximately 20 minutes to reach Tranquility Base the red dot.

Other floating boats/homes

Here a some other creations:

1. 2 storie pontoon boat from Montreal. I saw this in front of the NAC in Ottawa

2. The house trailer on a barge; I found this on the Internet.

3. A house boat (floating home) in British Columbia.

4. 2 canoes lashed together on Georgian Bay. This father and son team with their 2 dogs travel the North channel every summer.

September 2012 is fast approaching and there is still a lot to do. Progress over the summer was slow but steady. I will let the pictures speak for themselves.

Better late than never

A lot of work was done in the summer of 2010. We finally have a solid roof that we can walk on. This will be our upper deck with deck chairs and umbrella. You can also pitch a tent and sleep up there.

By the end of the summer we want to have all of the doors and windows in place, a barbeque and a small wood burning tent stove.
We have set September 2012 as our departure date. We are not sure if the boat will be in the water before then; however, in September we are taking the boat to Key West Florida - our new vacation place.
